Wedding Wednesday: The Proposal

Hello ladies!! We thought it would be super fun to start incorporating #WeddingWednesday because this past October Kellie married her high school sweetheart and it was a dream come true! Over the past two years we dreamt about how special and perfect that day was going to be and how much fun the planning process was going to be. Our weddings have been something we’ve both talked about since we were in high school so this experience was truly so special for both Makenzie and I.

Over the next few weeks we will dive deep into the wedding planning process, including the bachelorette party, the bridal shower, bridesmaid dresses, rehearsal dinner and so much more. Buckle in ladies, here comes the fun!

HOW WE MET

Jesse and I met in chemistry class our sophomore year of high school. Jesse had asked to borrow a pencil, and from that day on I was hooked. Months later Jesse had asked me to our winter formal, but here’s the thing… I wasn’t allowed to have boyfriend because I was only fifteen. Makenzie had to convince my dad that Jesse and I were “just friends” because that’s what I had told her. Little did she know we really liked each other, and after that dance things between us took off. Fast forward eight years later and Makenzie is flying to California to watch Jesse propose! SO CRAZY!

LEADING UP TO THE PROPOSAL

Makenzie and I have spent every 4th of July together since we were born, it’s a very serious family tradition we have! Although in 2018 our family tradition had some hiccups because of this crazy little thing called LIFE. Makenzie wasn’t able to make it out to California for the actual holiday so right then and there I threw the proposal out the window because Jesse knows how much I wanted Makenzie to be there. Now about a month before the holiday, my mom tells me Makenzie is flying out not for the holiday, but for the weekend after, which I found strange, but I knew she wanted to spend time with the family so I didn’t think anything of it. However, I did think, if Jesse does propose it’s going to be when Makenzie is here and it’s a LITTLE weird she’s coming for such a short trip.

THE PROPOSAL

Those few days were a whirlwind for our family. We went to the casino, then to my brother’s baseball game and then we had dinner plans so I knew the proposal wasn’t going to happen that weekend because we seriously were SO BUSY. My mom told us to get ready for a nice BBQ dinner later that night because they won big on the slots at the casino, HAHA! However, I told Makenzie that we could go to one of my favorite spots in Corona Del Mar to look at the ocean because it had been a while since she’d seen the beach. Before dinner we got ready and headed there to hangout with our boyfriends! Little did I know the proposal was in motion. My best friend Emily had planned the entire proposal with Jesse and us heading to Corona Del Mar was just the start of the best day EVER.

As soon as we arrived, Makenzie and I started taking pictures with the sunset. This beach is my favorite because of the views… seriously it doesn’t get any better than a sunset on the coast in July. We walked down a little further and Makenzie had asked me to take a picture of her and her boyfriend Stephen, but she left her phone in the car. I told her we could use mine, but she insisted she needed to go back to the car to grab hers. This is when I knew something was up because Makenzie is not like that and she isn’t a good liar! I could see Jesse starting to sweat and look around and I said to myself, “HOLY COW IS THIS REALLY ABOUT TO HAPPEN?” A few seconds later Jesse got down on one knee and proposed and it really was the best day of my life. Little did I know he had one of our best friends there photographing the entire thing, along with a few of our other friends and Makenzie as well. The entire thing was exactly what I had always dreamt of!

The guy on the right is a rando who took this opportunity to build his own portfolio.. LOL

AFTER THE PROPOSAL

It doesn’t stop there though… Jesse gathered my entire family together, along with his parents and that was our next surprise. Everyone was waiting for us Islands (a California classic, with the best cheese fries… YUMMM) and when we arrived we were greeted by our family and my best friend Emily. It seriously was magical.

Hours later when I thought the night was over, we headed back to my apartment where Jesse and Emily had arranged for ALL of our college and high school best friends to surprise me there and let me tell you, I was seriously surprised. When we drove up I saw the lights on so I figured something was up, but I didn’t expect there to be 25 people in my little apartment. It truly is one of the best feelings in the world to have everyone you love in one place celebrating your love.

The surprises don’t stop there… the next morning Jesse planned another special moment for us. He rented out my apartment clubhouse and arranged a mini “engagement party” with my friends and family. And not only that, but he booked one of our friends to sing acoustic country music the entire time and it seriously was something special. The entire weekend had been everything I had ever dreamt of and I can’t believe Jesse planned it all by himself (with the help of Emily, Makenzie and my mom). It was a weekend I will remember for the rest of my life.

From this moment on, I was officially in wedding planning mode!

Planning my wedding seriously was such a fun experience. Everyone I talked to leading up to it always told me how stressful it was going to be and by the time the wedding came around I would be over it, but let me tell you that wasn’t the case. I seriously thrived in the planning process and would do it a million times over again if I could!
